The days in which we live seem to reflect much of the evil of Habakkuk's time. As Christians in this present time we cry out to the Lord for relief and succor. But their pleading cries and petitioning prayers, often seem to fall on deaf ears. We hear of wars and rumors' of wars. We read of death and destruction and we grieve to hear of the intense suffering, persecution, and slaughter of many martyrs of the faith throughout this God-hating, Christ-rejecting, Christian-despising, sinful world. Habakkuk believed the Word of the Lord and determined that no matter what terror, troubles, or trials befell him, he would maintain his trust in God. The Sovereign Lord is our strength and has promised that His grace is sufficient. He makes our feet as sturdy as the feet of a deer, enabling us to navigate the most mountainous heights. Though we and our Christian brothers and sisters are facing the terrors of today, We Have The Word Of God that contains many precious promises. Let us determine that despite the destruction and violence in the world and the strife, corruption, and injustice we witness, we will stand firm on the Word of truth and trust God to fulfil His promises. The vision Habakkuk received is as relevant today as it was in the distant past. The plans and purposes of God will certainly come to pass and will not be delayed. Only at God's appointed time and only in His designated way. How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Habakkuk who, despite the violence and destruction he had to go through, held fast to Your precious promises and determined to praise Your name, no matter what terrors, tribulation, or trials he had to face. Thank You for their writings which help us to see the end from the beginning, and we praise Your name for the assurance that justice will one day be carried out. May we be equally determined to trust in Your love and rest in the truth of Your Word. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. The love of Christ that was demonstrated in the life of Paul is not a love that can be fired up through the emotions, achieved through training, or developed by strictly following man-made rules. Christlike affection is not a love that we work up for ourselves. It is the love of Christ Himself being poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. It is the fruit of the Holy Spirit being manifested in our lives so that The Love Of Christ In Our Hearts, may stream out from us to others with whom we come in contact. When we abide in Christ and willingly submit to the good work that the Holy Spirit started in our life at salvation, then the love of Christ grows in our heart as spiritual fruit and we are enabled by Him to love one another as He loves us. When the love of Christ is manifested in our hearts, we discover a love for others that is not of ourselves and a willingness to forgive and forget, which can only be rooted in Christ's love for us. When the love of Jesus is genuinely filling our hearts, we discover a joy in the Lord that is inexpressible and a peace in our heart that passes human understanding. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we pray that we may grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that His love may flow into our hearts so that, in the power of the Holy Spirit, we too may love others as Christ loved us and be able to say with Paul: "As God is our witness, we yearn for our brothers and sisters in Christ with all the affection of Christ Jesus." In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Christ gave Himself willingly for love of the Church (who is His Body) so that He could make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the Word, and that in so doing He could present her to Himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless in the sight of God. It was His sacrificial death that paid the price for the sin of the whole world, and it was His glorious Resurrection that enabled all those that believe on His name to be sanctified and made holy in Him. Love was His motivating factor, love for God and love for His Bride, the Church. A precious parallel is drawn between the mystic union of Christ with His Church and the sacred union of a husband with his wife. Just as Christ loved the Church so much that He gave Himself for her, so husbands are called to love their wives in the same way. What a difference there would be in the Body of Christ today, if we were to apply all that is written in the Word of God in our own lives and marriages; wives are to submit to their own husbands and Husbands Are To Love Their Wives As Christ Loves The Church. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we want to be ones that carry out this truth in our own lives. Make us more like Christ, and teach us to love as He loves the Church. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Wives are called to submit to their own husband and not to trifle with the affections of the husband's of other women, but how often the precious, holy union of matrimony between a man and his wife is damaged when a woman (or man) seeks solace in the company of another, or by submitting to one who is not their own spouse! This instruction to 'submit' is not an archaic practice that needs to be shelved, or which renders the wife under cruel subjection to her husband as is so often claimed today, but it is recognizing that this is God's order. This is the way the Lord designed marriage to be. It is a beautiful reflection of universal harmony where Christ is the head of the Church Who loves His Bride so dearly that He gave His life for love of her. This beautiful illustration of Christ And His Bride is reflected in the special relationship that exists between a man and his wife. In the marriage union, both are equal in the sight of God and yet maintain His perfect order in their marriage and home-life, where the wife submits to their own husband and the husband love his wife with a Christ-like love. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for our homes and families and for the wonderful way that You have designed the different roles of husbands and wives which bring glory to Your name when applied in our home situations. We lift up all Christian marriages today and pray that in Your grace, many wives may see the beauty there is in godly submission to their own husbands. And in-turn, we pray that men may reflect the great love for their own wives that Christ has for the Church, Who out of love for us, gave Himself for us. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul identifies the qualities of the man or woman who walks as a child of light, and is filled with the Spirit of God. To walk in spirit and truth and to be filled with the Holy Spirit, results in A Christ-Like Life of godly self-sacrifice and the production of an abundance of spiritual fruit for the benefit of others and to the glory of God. A thankful heart, boldness in testifying to the truth of the gospel, power for spiritual service, open-hearted generosity towards others, and the exaltation of the Lord Jesus Christ, are all evidences given in the Word of God of the man or woman who is filled with the Spirit of God. This results a Christ-like life of godly self-sacrifice and an abundance of spiritual fruit. Underpinning our attitude, our actions, our minds, and our motives towards one another should be a deep reverence for the Lord Jesus Who is the Head of the body and Master of all. Let us all seek to be filled, and continue to be filled day by day, by the Holy Spirit of God in all we say and do, and in every area of our lives so that our life may be a demonstration of the life of Christ living in us, flowing through us and streaming out to others for their benefit and to the glory of God. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we long to walk the godly path in Christ Jesus and be filled with the Spirit, moment by moment. Lord, we want to do this for the right reasons so that our lives may praise and glorify You, for You alone are worthy. We pray that our lives may be ones of self-sacrifice and humble praise, for the benefit of our brothers and sisters in Christ and to the praise and glory of Your holy name. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. We are instructed to keep the eyes of our hearts on Jesus Who has promised to carry all our burdens and to comfort us in all our affliction so that we may offer solace to others who are also weighed down by the cares of this world and oppressed by evil-doers. The Lord Jesus is the perfect example of a Man Who delighted Himself in the Lord. His was not an easy path. He learned obedience by the things that He suffered. Nevertheless, the Lord Jesus delighted Himself in His God and Father throughout His life, and even endured the Cross and despised its shame for the JOY that was set before Him. I seek not My will but the will of Him that sent Me, was His daily desire. When our will is aligned with the will of God, as was intended in the beginning, then the things that delight our Heavenly Father will naturally become the joy of our own hearts. When we delight ourselves in the Lord and take pleasure in the things that are uppermost on God's own heart, we will discover that they become The Joy Of Our Hearts and we will be able to spiritually appraise all things and to say that we are one with Him. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times when we have delighted ourselves in wrong things. Keep us from fretting over evildoers in this increasingly confusing world, and help us to keep the eyes of our hearts on Jesus and to delight ourselves in the things of God. Align our thoughts to Your thoughts, we pray, and our will to the will of God. May the desires of our hearts unite with Your will and eternal purposes, for Your everlasting praise and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. As a member of the human race, the Savior was the first BORN baby of the virgin Mary: "A Child is born," He shall save His people from their sins. The Savior was the only begotten Son of God: "A Son is given," for God so loved the world that he GAVE the beloved Son of His love, Jesus Christ, to be our Redeemer. God alone has the authority to call Himself: "Mighty God." God alone is eternal and so He alone can be entitled: "Everlasting Father." And God alone, in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, shed His lifeblood so that all who believe on His name would have peace with God, that perfect peace of God that passes all understanding. Christ alone has the right to be called: "Prince of Peace." The Almighty God of Peace, set aside His glory to take on the form of a man and be BORN into the race that He created, the Son of Man. He was GIVEN by the Father as the Son of God, a gift of grace from God to a lost world so that all who believe in His name would be saved. The Lord Jesus Christ is that Child that was BORN and He is that Son that was GIVEN. No surprise that His name shall be called: "Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, no matter how many times we read of the wonder of Your incarnation as the Word made flesh, it fills us with wonder and praise. Lord, we worship You in the beauty of holiness, and we bow down before Your throne of grace in thankfulness for this special day, Christmas, and the reason to celebrate this day in your name, holy is Your name. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. John 17 is the holy of holies in Scripture, it contains the greatest prayer ever prayed on earth, by the greatest man who ever lived. It causes us to take off the shoes from off our feet, for the place whereon we stand is holy. Within this sacred text we discover, from the prayerful lips of the Lord Jesus Himself, exactly what eternal life is. Eternal life is not heaven (our ultimate destination) or the life hereafter, as so many people think. It is not some fuzzy feeling or something to look forward to in the dim and distant future. It is not something for which to strive throughout our earthly life. Eternal Life Is A Free Gift of grace that all believers in Him have as their present possession - NOW. It is something they received the moment that they trusted the Lord Jesus as Savior, were born into the family of God. This is eternal life; that we know the triune God and that we know the Lord Jesus Christ Whom God sent to be the Savior of mankind. Eternal life is knowing God personally. It is not just knowledge about God, but an intimate and eternal fellowship with Him that begins by grace through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the new life in Christ that was given to us when we trusted Him as our Savior. Thank You for the eternal life that is already ours through Christ. May we know You more and more, and may we grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Throughout the Church age, many enemies, both physical and spiritual, have sought to steal, kill, and destroy the sheep in Christ's little flock, but we are not to fear. We are all safe in the hands of our Heavenly Father, and the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church. We who are all in Christ have already received the abundance of His life, and one day Christ Jesus will return, as He promised, to take us to be with Himself. But a time of Great Tribulation, beyond this Church age is coming, when a final and terrible thief will come and try to steal, kill, and destroy both the people of God and His Anointed King. This is the time of Jacob's Trouble when a Christ rejecting sinful world will experience the wrath of God. We are not appointed to wrath, but To Obtain Salvation By Our Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and Good Shepherd Who will take us to the heavenly home He has prepared for all who love Him so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Our United Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for Jesus the Good Shepherd Who laid down His life for us so that we might live with You forever. Thank You that by faith in Him, we can have abundant life in Him. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. While there are many other things that are made known in this book, like the Antichrist, the four horsemen, the two witnesses, the ministry of angels, mystery Babylon, the mark of the beast, and the Great White Throne judgement seat... the primary thing that is being revealed throughout its pages is Jesus Christ. The principal person that is made known to us is the Lord Jesus Christ, without Whom every other event within its pages is of no significance. More often than not, students of Revelation are looking for the events that take place in Revelation and spend their energy trying to make sense of them, while missing the most important truth, that every event that takes place in this book is written to reveal more and more of the Lord Jesus Christ Who is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and the Last, the Author and Finisher of our faith, without Whom we would be without hope, forever lost, and eternally damned. While the book contains many prophecies that are to take place in the future, the fundamental truth to which we should hold is that The Lord Jesus Is The Central Object Of All Prophecy. Jesus Is The One About Whom Prophecy Is Written and He is the one that ultimately fulfils all prophecy. The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, Our United Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and that You have told us what will happen before it happens so that we will believe. May we read, mark, and learn from all You have told us in the book of Revelation and may we be guided by the Holy Spirit into all truth. But above all, as we read this book, we pray that Jesus would be revealed to us, more and more, and we would know Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more nearly, all the days of our lives. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Every common task to which we place our shoulder and each Christian duty to which we are called, can only be successfully discharged as we rely on the Lord Jesus Christ for guidance and strength. We are to live, and work, and be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might, not in the strength and power of our own human abilities. We are to be strengthened in the 'inner' man through the power of the Holy Spirit of God. This is not a one-time strengthening, but a moment by moment Reliance Upon Him, until we are increasingly able to act upon His guidance, as we learn to listen to His voice saying: "This is the way, walk in it." It is not by my strength or by my own power or wisdom that we can do all things, but through Christ, Who gives us His strength. Like the apostle Paul, without HIM we can do nothing but we can do all things through Christ: "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord." I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Our United Prayer:
Teach us, our Father, to look to Jesus each moment of the day for our strength and not to rely on our own imperfect, human abilities and intelligence. Without You we can do nothing. But thanks to God that as we rest in Christ Jesus, He will empower us, through the Holy Spirit, to carry out Your will for our lives. Father, we confess that without You we can do nothing, but thanks be to God that we can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us through the power of the Holy Spirit. To You be praise and glory, AMEN. We are called to Rejoice In The Lord, to pray without ceasing, and in everything to give thanks to the Lord our God, for the joy of the Lord is our health and strength, and His mercy endures forevermore. We are exhorted to rejoice in the Lord and to take refuge in Him, for He has done wonderful things for all who have trusted in the name of His dearly beloved Son. True joy and genuine happiness is a gift of grace from our heavenly Father, genuine joy and true happiness is a heavenly grace we receive from the Spirit of God, as we walk in spirit and truth and live in newness of life. Joy is a fruit that the Lord produces within our hearts, but it is something that the world can know nothing about. The Joy of the Lord is a precious fruit and a spiritual grace that is given to us from above. The joy of the Lord is our strength in times of weakness and protection in times of danger. However, unsaved men and women know nothing of true, heavenly joy, which is a characteristic of the Christian Church, that is ours by grace. Those who are dead in their sins do not have access to God's spiritual graces, joy is both a gift of God to the justified and a fruit of the Spirit in the sanctified man and woman. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father thank You for Your gift of joy and for Your fruit of rejoicing. Help us to take all our thoughts captive; especially those doubts and imaginings that are prompted by the enemy to steal the gift of joy that is ours in Christ. Thank You, Father, that You are worthy of all our praise and that Your joy is a medicine and spiritual muscle that strengthens our trust and increases our love for You. May we never cease to rejoice in You all the days of our lives. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Every Child Is A Miracle From Above, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, and there is much in Scripture that gives parental guidance on the godly upbringing of their offspring. May those who have been entrusted with the heritage and gift of children, take their parental responsibilities seriously, and bring them up in the way they should go, God has promised that when they as they grow older, they will not depart from the way of Truth. May we who have been entrusted by the Lord to be parents, recognize the awesome responsibility with which we have been given. Help us to faithfully train our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord and nurture them on the living Word of Truth, for God's greater praise and glory. Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the heritage and gift of children and the joy that comes from your children's children. May Christian parents recognize the responsibility and importance of training up their offspring in the ways of the Lord. We ask Your divine protection over our precious children and pray that both mothers and fathers unite in their godly upbringing and training. Look down in pity on children who do not have the opportunities of a Christian upbringing, and draw them into a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We ask this in Jesus' name, AMEN. All the writings of the apostle John are pointing us to Jesus so that we may believe in His name and know that we have life, wonderful life, the life of Christ within us, the Spirit of life dwelling in us, abundant life, eternal life. How important that we believe in the name of the Son of God, there is no other name given under heaven whereby we must be saved. The day is fast approaching when "at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Never Forget That It Was The Blood Of Christ That Saved Us from the penalty of sin and it was the Cross of Christ that saved us from the power of sin. As believers, we are positioned IN CHRIST. As believers, we are identified with Christ's death. But also, as believers, we are identified with Christ's Resurrection and because He lives, we too shall live eternally, He has broken the power of sin and death. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, what a joy to know that we are in Christ and that because we are identified with Him in His death, we are also identified with Him in newness of life. Thank You for our lives, our abundant lives, our eternal lives in Christ. In His name we Pray, AMEN. The angel Gabriel visited young Mary of Nazareth to inform her of God's gracious favor towards her, she had been chosen to give birth to The Long Awaited, Promised Messiah. In wonder and amazement, she humbly asked how this could be, knowing that she had not been intimate with any man. Her question was not one of doubt or unbelief, but one that was filled with awe and amazement at the mighty wisdom of God, one that recognized the amazing grace that had been extended to her that a humble maid such as she should be chosen to receive this high honor. In His humanity, Jesus was to be the Child born of Mary. In His deity, Christ was to be the Son of the Highest. Unto us the child that was formed in the womb of Mary was to be BORN into the human race, but also unto us to the Son of the most high God was GIVEN: "For God so loved the world that he GAVE His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You take the simple things of life and servants that are humble in spirit, to be lifted up and used by You to Your praise and glory. We pray that we would walk humbly before You all the days of our lives and that You would use us in whatever ways You choose, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. |
