Jesus said earlier in His ministry that not one jot or tittle of the Law would pass away until all things have been accomplished, and in many respects Jesus came to fulfil both the Word of the Lord and the Work of the Law. Heaven and earth will one day pass away. This world has been contaminated by sin, but the pure words of the Lord Jesus are perfect. They are life and light to fallen mankind and will never, ever pass away; the Words of the Lord are pure words. The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandments of the Lord are pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether. The promises of the Lord are 'Yes' and 'Amen' in Christ Jesus, and The Words Of The Lord Will Never Ever Fail. Praise His holy name. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the risen, ascended, and glorified Word of God Whose words will never fail, and that Jesus is the living Word of God Whose promises stand fast forever and ever. Thank You for the precious promise that although heaven and earth will pass away, Your Words shall not pass away. No matter what happens in this world and no matter what trials and tribulations we face, we pray that we hold fast to Your Word of truth. Thank You, in Jesus’ name we Pray, AMEN.

None of us want to suffer. Often we actively resist suffering, and sometimes we view it as correction or punishment from God, especially if it is a fellow believer who is suffering! Yet in his first letter, Peter tells his readers that if we suffer at the hands of ungodly people for righteousness' sake, we are blessed indeed. We are not to feel threatened or intimidated by those that hate us. We are not to fear our adversaries or be troubled if they mock our faith or be fearful by their threats and animosity. We should not shrink back from suffering for righteousness' sake, but regard it as a privilege and honor to be worthy to suffer for Him Who died for us and rose again to save our soul. Peter tells us that suffering for the sake of righteousness is a blessing that brings with it great reward and immense joy. Suffering Turns Into Blessings, when we realize that we are being identified with Him and we are favored by the Father if we suffer for righteousness' sake 1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we know that in this world we will have tribulation and troubles as children of God. We pray that we would not be fearful but trust in You. We pray that these words of Jesus would sink deep into our hearts in whatever situation we find ourselves in: "In the world you will have tribulation but take courage; We have overcome the world." In Jesus' name, AMEN. When brought to the brink of despair, David admitted that his confidence could only be in God, His promises of protection will never fail. He is a faithful and gracious God Who will never disappoint His people and Who alone deserves our reverence and praise. Like David, we live in a fallen, sinful world that is becoming darker with every passing day, but, like David, our confidence must be anchored in Christ our Savior. He alone is our shield and protection. He alone is our defense and defender. We have not been given the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. We have the Holy Spirit of wisdom and understanding. We have God's Spirit of counsel, comfort, strength, and might. We have the Holy Spirit of knowledge and understanding Who has promised to guide us into all truth and pour into our hearts the peace that passes understanding. When We Are Looking To Jesus, and when the eyes of our hearts are firmly fixed upon Him, we have a confidence in the promises of His Word. His Word is true and His promises stand fast for ever and ever. Psalm 3:6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, the increasing violence and wickedness in this world and the terrors that seem to increasingly stalk our paths, have too often caused us to divert our attention onto our mounting problems, instead of looking to Jesus and trusting Your Word. Thank You that no matter what happens in this world, You have promised to be with us. You are our Provider and Protector, our Defense and Defender. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit and Your peace that passes understanding, where we can rest in Your love and praise Your holy name. Thank You that we have been brought into Your family, by grace through faith in Jesus. In His name we Pray, AMEN. Having thoroughly and systematically presented every aspect of the glorious gospel of salvation, and the eternal foundation of God's amazing grace upon which these everlasting truths rest, Paul earnestly urges believers in Christ to practically apply all that he has taught in this weighty epistle to the Romans, by Presenting Our Bodies To The Lord As Living Sacrifices. We are saved entirely because of God's wonderful grace. There is nothing we can do to repay God, but surely in the light of its eternal glories and benefits we can offer ourselves to Him in love and gratitude, by presenting our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is our spiritual worship. This is not a command, God wants our love and service to be rendered freely and willingly, but in light of the riches of God's free grace which He has poured out in great measure on fallen sinners simply because we trusted in Christ as our Savior. It should be our joy and delight to present our bodies, day by day, in spiritual worship as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to the Lord. Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Our United Prayer:
Lord, take our lives and let them be consecrated to You. Take our lives Lord, we pour our lives out as living sacrifices to You. Praise Your holy name for the amazing gift of salvation that You have given to us, by grace through faith. You alone are worthy of our love and praise forever and ever. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Sheep and shepherds play a vital role in Scripture. Sheep have to be guarded from enemy attacks, and guided by the shepherd, because the little flock in their care, often wander away, become fearful or blindly follow the rest of the sheep. The shepherd must not neglect those in his care. Rather, he must consider the needs of the sheep before his own. He must watch over them tenderly and search out lush pasture for them to eat, and calm pools of water where they can drink in peace and safety. He must ensure that he protects each one from the many prowling predators, and erect strong defenses around the precious sheep-fold to ward off evil. God is no man's debtor, and despite spiritually gifting all who are called to shepherd the flock of God, Peter reveals a wonderful truth that should rejoice the heart of those who are called to be pastors or elders, or those who Shepherd the Body of Christ, for His name's sake. When JESUS the Supreme Shepherd returns in the clouds to take us to be with Himself, they will receive a glorious crown, rewarding them for their faithful efforts, that will never fade away. God is a generous Giver of all that is good and perfect in this life; and in the world to come His gifts of grace are eternal and His generosity is never-ending and beyond our comprehension. Whether this is only given to those who are under-shepherds in a Church fellowship, or whether it is a crown that may be awarded to all who have faithfully served the Body of Christ and cared for the people of God in the graciousness of their heart under the guidance of the Spirit is not clear, but may we all in humility of heart carry out Christ's will faithfully and fervently, by Caring For The Church Of Christ, as we look for that glorious day when we will be with our Good and Faithful Shepherd Who died and rose again so that we might live eternally. 1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. Our United Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the faithful pastors and elders in our churches who humbly care for the people in their congregations, as they gently shepherd the flock of God in their charge. We pray for all those who have been called to be the under-shepherds of Your people, and pray that You would empower each one with the gifts and graces they need to minister to those You have placed in their charge. Keep them from developing an attitude of pride or superiority, and may they all rejoice with the saints in heaven, when they receive their crown of glory that will not pass away. Help each one to pattern their life on Christ, and may each one set a godly examples to those in their care. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. What an astonishing command: "Be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect." On the surface it seems like an impossible, unreasonable, even thoughtless request, because God knows that we are a sinful race with a fallen nature, and that there is no way that we could ever obey this command. We cannot imitate Christ's righteousness, nor can we be perfect by striving to reach righteousness by resolutions, by means of self-help skills, or strictly training ourselves to be morally principled. There is no way that we can become perfect by ourselves, even with the combined help of all the people in the world. The only way that we can be perfect, this side of heaven, is to be conformed into the image and likeness of Christ, by having His righteousness imputed to us, credited to us, and ascribed to us, through the power of the Holy Spirit and to the glory of the Father. Should we not rejoice that God has not only commanded us to be perfect as He is perfect, but in His love and grace He foreordained that Through Faith In Christ We May Be Perfect, entire, and lacking nothing, simply by an act of saving faith and an obedient life of sanctifying faith, trusting Him to finish the good work he started in us - in Christ. Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we long to be more like You and to finish the work that You have prepared for us. Please perfect Your life in us in all we say and do, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Paul was passionate for His Lord and equally passionate that we understand and apply the truth of the whole counsel of God, but he knew that many would be tossed about by the chill winds of deceptive doctrines and that many false teachers and doctrines would enter the Church to confuse the flock, to lead astray and entice many to return to the path of legalism and worldly pursuits. Near the conclusion of him exposing the dangers of legalism and the glories of grace, Paul nails his whole argument on the Cross of Christ. He explains that the gospel is being distorted by the boastings of mankind who, in their pride, seek to draw other believers back under Law, which was nailed to the Cross of Christ at salvation. It is so much more acceptable for prideful people to do SOMETHING to add to Christ's work on Calvary: 'For if I keep some man-made rule,' we argue, 'what wonderful credit I will receive!' Because Christ fulfilled the whole Law in His life and death, the whole Law was nailed to the Cross. Because we are in Christ, the righteousness that He gained was also gained for us. We did not need to do anything to be clothed in His righteousness, except Believe In Him As Our Savior. Galatians 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, thank You that Christ's work is complete and we do not have to keep the Law to please you, but simply trust and believe in You as our Savior. Thank You, in Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. There is some false teaching that all members of the human race are children of God and that all men and women are universal sons and daughters of the Almighty. This is not only dangerous but unscriptural, for only the regenerate are made children of God; only those that are saved by grace through faith in Christ are given the right to become children of God: "Even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of human parentage but of the Spirit of God," by grace, through faith. To those that are born of the Spirit and washed in the blood of Christ, God is a gracious Heavenly Father, but to a Christ-rejecting sinful world, God is a righteous Judge. When Scripture is twisted so that the love of God is divorced from the justice of God, we are left with a benevolent old man in the sky or an evil despot who dispenses fire and brimstone at His will. When a distorted gospel is preached and only certain of God's characteristics are accentuated at the expense of the truth, the Church of God is destroyed for the lack of knowledge. It is purely the mercy of God that has pronounced We Are Children Of God, Through Our Faith In Christ. Galatians 3:26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, what abundant grace and abounding mercy has been extended to us, who were once children of Satan, at enmity with God and bound for hell. But in Your grace, You reached down to our sin-soaked lowliness, raised us up from the miry pit and placed our feet on Christ, the Rock of our salvation. Thank You that by faith in Him, we might be called children of God. Praise Your holy name, AMEN. The Wonderful Truths Are Shared about the believers position in Christ and our special relationship to our Heavenly Father. We discover that at rebirth we not only died with Christ, but we are raised up into newness of life in Him. Our new life in Christ, our born-again nature, is positioned in Him. What beautiful truths are shared about our new life in Christ, where we discover that we are all members of His Body, united together in Him, free from bondage to sin and the curse of the law, each one with his own distinctive gifts and ministries, but each looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. As the elect of God, we are to be holy as he is holy. We are to put on a heart of compassion and bring forth the spiritual fruit of kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, and we are to bear with one another in love, forgiving each other with grace, just as God in Christ has forgiven us. Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, how we praise and thank You that even though we were dead in trespasses and sins and at enmity with You, we are called by You and chosen to be children of God and a joint-heirs with Christ. Thank You that we are washed in the blood of the Lamb, by grace through faith in Him, and have been made new creations in Christ and eternally positioned in Him, to Your praise and glory. Thank You that we have been set apart for His glory, and we pray that in Him, we would put on hearts of compassion and kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, so that Christ is always in our lives. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. In context, Paul is talking about the glories of the New Covenant of God. He is rejoicing in the wonderful promises that are founded on the blood of Christ, the gospel that removes all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ from the condemnation of the Law, for the free gift of God is eternal life to all who believe on Christ. Because of the glories of the wonderful gospel of Christ, where the life and light of salvation flows to all who believe, Paul rejoices to teach the good news of God's saving grace and to set out the truth of Scripture because he knew that it was only by God's grace that he himself had been saved. Because of the glories contained in the gospel of Christ, Paul does not get discouraged, even when those that he is teaching choose not to listen to the good news, but reject the truth of God's amazing grace. It is not God's will that anyone should perish, but that all come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus – but God gives every single man and woman A Choice To Believe In The Lord Jesus Christ and be saved or to reject the gospel of grace and be condemned. Men and women who choose to close their minds to the gospel of God's grace are those that are perishing. Day by day, let us be those that continue to rejoice in the wonderful gospel of Christ. The more we open our hearts to Him, the more He will show Himself to us. 2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Our United Prayer:
Father, we thank You that You sought us and found us. Keep our hearts ever open to Your truth. We pray that many who hear the gospel today, will open their hearts to Your truth of the new covenant of grace and trust the Lord Jesus as Savior. In His name we Pray, AMEN When God created the world, it was good. Indeed, God saw that all that He had made was very good. Although we can truly say that He made everything with resplendent beauty, everything He made was fitting and just right. God created us with a yearning for the eternal; a desire to discover all the answers of time and eternity. We are born with a human restlessness deep within our mortal spirit. As one writer described it: "There is a God-shaped hole within the heart of every person," a longing for what is eternal, which Christ alone can fill. Throughout the course of history, humanity continues its endless search for something that is beyond human knowledge. The human race marches on, seeking answers that are beyond our comprehension because our infinite, unfathomable, God has designed us with a hunger for more, a hunger that nothing but He Himself can suffice. It is when we are willing to surrender to the sovereignty of God and acknowledge that He is the all-powerful God Whose ways are past finding out, and that we are His dependent creatures, that our inner restlessness is stilled. Indeed, the more we understand that the Lord is in control, that He alone can solve the mysteries of the universe, that He Is The Author And Finisher Of Our Faith, and our future times are in His hands, that we are enabled to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own, limited understanding or attempt to find answers from our own, inadequate imagination. God has done all things appropriately and well, and He has set eternity in the heart of all mankind so that those who seek Him with all their heart will find rest for their soul in Him and receive the gift of eternal life through faith in Christ. He has promised that whosoever will, may come. Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we truly worship and praise You, that You are our great Creator Who has made everything beautiful in its time and appropriate to complete Your plans and purposes. Thank You that You made us in Your image and likeness and that in Your grace have set eternity in the hearts of all people. Help us to surrender to Your sovereign will, to establish You on the throne of our lives, and to trust You to fulfil Your perfect plan and purposes in each of our lives. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. All humanity has sinned, and every man and woman needs the gospel of salvation for all are dead in trespasses and sins and all are without hope in the world. But in His grace, God formulated a plan that would redeem fallen mankind from the kingdom of darkness and transfer them into the kingdom of His dear Son; a plan that would not compromise His perfect justice: "For the wages of sin is death," but Christ shed His blood on the Cross to pay that price in full, for all who would believe. God further supplied humanity with an internal witness that speaks of His great power, glorious majesty, and supreme goodness, for man was created with a mind to think, a free-will to choose, and a conscience with which to inform those decisions. Every Member Of The Human Race Needs The Gospel Of Salvation. Every human being is in need of forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with the God Who made them. Sadly, many have chosen to use their mind, will, and emotion to disbelieve the clear evidences of His internal witness and external testimony: "Those who believe are not condemned, but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the only begotten son of God." Romans 1:19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the two witnesses of creation and conscience that speak so clearly of Your great glory and the wonder of Your works. We pray that we will never lose that wonder of Who You are, as we reflect on Your mighty, creative acts. We pray that our consciences will ever be tender toward You. May we respond to the inner promptings of Your Spirit when we are tempted to sin, and help us to become increasingly conscious of Your leading and guiding within. Thank You that You sent Your only begotten Son to die for us so that we might live. Help us to live as You would have us live, in utter dependence upon You, with self nailed to the Cross. In Jesus' name we Pray, Amen. This beautiful Psalm is the longest chapter in the Bible and its focus, from beginning to end, is the Word of God. God's Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. The Word of God teaches and trains us, it regulates and rules our thinking. It gives peace to the righteous and strength to the weak. It nourishes and feeds us and gives witness to the truth. The Word Of God Revives And Refreshes Us, and we are exhorted to hide God's Word in our heart for the Word of God stands fast for ever and ever. And we are encouraged to meditate on the wonderful things in the Word of God day and night, His Word is eternal and true. But those that love the Lord Jesus and are saved by the blood of the Lamb are hated by the enemy of our soul, and His cruel attacks on the children of God can be sustained and dangerous. We must be watchful and wary of his ploys, he seeks to twist the truth of God's Word, causing us to question God's faithfulness and damage our witness and walk. We live in an evil and Christ-rejecting world, but when the enemy comes in like a flood: when our soul cleaves to the dust of the ground and when our heart is faint and weary, let us call to mind the many precious promises in the Word of God which are all 'yes' and 'amen' in Christ Jesus our Lord. Let us hide ourselves in the cleft of our Rock, He alone revives our fainting soul, according to God's Word. Psalm 119:25 I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, how we love Your Word, the many truths it contains, and the light and refreshment we receive from its pages each day. Thank You that Christ Jesus is the Word made flesh and that all the promises in Your written Word are 'yes' and 'amen' in Him. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Jesus Christ made the Law of no effect by giving His sinless life to pay the full price of all sin, which was the only payment that a holy God could accept. Only the shed blood of Jesus Christ (the perfect Son of God and sinless Son of Man), could satisfy the righteous demands of God Who had decreed that the wages of sin is death. Jesus died to pay that price for you, for me, and for all who would trust in Christ as Savior, and in so doing, Jesus made the commands and demands of the Law of no effect for all who trust in Him. Jesus paid the price of sin for all people, but Jesus made the Law of no effect for all who would believe on His name. Although the sins of the unsaved have been paid for by the blood of Christ, they remain under the condemnation of the Law because they have not believed on the only begotten Son of God. But there is no condemnation to those that believe in Jesus Christ as Savior because His shed blood nullifies the condemnation of the Law for all who will trust in His name. The Blood Of Christ Has Removed The Curse Of The Law and made it of no effect for all who trust in His name, whether they be Jew or Gentile: "And whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Ephesians 2:15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, Our United Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You that You loved us so much that You would willingly come to earth to suffer and die so that the effect of the Law might be nullified in the lives of all who trust in Your shed blood for salvation. Thank You that in Christ, we have peace with God and are no longer under the condemnation of the Law, and thank You that we have the peace of God in our hearts. Help us to live holy lives to Your honor and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. The warm gentleness and tender-hearted forgiveness in Paul's chapter on love in 1 Corinthians 13, identifies LOVE As The Foundational Fruit Of The Spirit from which all other gifts and graces grow. Love is also a gift of the Spirit because it is only as we abide in Him and He in us, that we can love as Christ loved, as we allow the love of Christ to flow through us to others. Here, in Peter's first epistle, we find another important teaching on love, which is condensed into one tiny verse by the big, Galilean fisher-of-men. Such love does not wink at sin, nor does it translate imperfections into destructive criticism, but is gracious toward the faults of others and patient with their defects. Such love applauds the good qualities they find in others while speaking the truth in love. They encourage others in their Christian walk. They forgive past offenses. By faith, we have received God's eternal forgiveness. His unconditional and unrestricted forgiveness. There is nothing that can separate us from His love, for past, present, and future sins have been washed in the sea of His amazing forgiveness, and His vast ocean of forgetfulness, and we are cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb. 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional and unrestricted forgiveness. Thank You that as far as the east is from the west, is the distance that our sins have been removed from us. Thank You for this truth, that love covers a multitude of sins. We pray that we would not misuse this verse and simply tolerate all sin, or wink at sin, but love as Christ loved us, loving and forgiving in grace and truth. We pray, that we may reflect Christlikeness in all our dealings with others, so that the glory goes to You. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. |
