Of all the gifts and graces that are poured out in great abundance into the lives of believers, there are three that out-shine and out-last all others. When prophecy is complete, languages cease, signs are silenced, and miracles of health, healing, provision, and protection are no longer needed. We are told that these three spiritual fruits of God’s amazing grace will continue and will remain and abide into the eternal state: faith, hope, and love. But love is a gift of God, and love is the primary a fruit of the Spirit that will continue to grow and expand beyond our wildest imaginations. The love of God that has been poured into our hearts will continue to increase and multiply, The love of God is eternal, and the love of God is broader than the measure of our mind. The loving heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. Our faith in Him will stand fast forever, and our hope in Him will be forever realized. But it is the love of God that He has for us that will move us ever closer to the love that we have for Him as we abide in Him and He in us, through time and into eternity. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Our United Prayer:
Thank You Father for Your gift of salvation by grace alone, simply because we believe in Your Son. Thank You for the hope that is set before us and thank You for the love of the Lord Jesus, which was demonstrated to us on a wooden cross, over 2000 years ago. May His love flood our hearts and pour through us into the lives of others, that they may know Your love, have faith in Your finished work and receive that blessed hope in their hearts, that only comes from You, in Jesus name we Pray, AMEN.

The warm gentleness and tender-hearted forgiveness in Paul's chapter on love in 1 Corinthians 13, identifies LOVE As The Foundational Fruit Of The Spirit from which all other gifts and graces grow. Love is also a gift of the Spirit because it is only as we abide in Him and He in us, that we can love as Christ loved, as we allow the love of Christ to flow through us to others. Here, in Peter's first epistle, we find another important teaching on love, which is condensed into one tiny verse by the big, Galilean fisher-of-men. Such love does not wink at sin, nor does it translate imperfections into destructive criticism, but is gracious toward the faults of others and patient with their defects. Such love applauds the good qualities they find in others while speaking the truth in love. They encourage others in their Christian walk. They forgive past offenses. By faith, we have received God's eternal forgiveness. His unconditional and unrestricted forgiveness. There is nothing that can separate us from His love, for past, present, and future sins have been washed in the sea of His amazing forgiveness, and His vast ocean of forgetfulness, and we are cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb. 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional and unrestricted forgiveness. Thank You that as far as the east is from the west, is the distance that our sins have been removed from us. Thank You for this truth, that love covers a multitude of sins. We pray that we would not misuse this verse and simply tolerate all sin, or wink at sin, but love as Christ loved us, loving and forgiving in grace and truth. We pray, that we may reflect Christlikeness in all our dealings with others, so that the glory goes to You. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. It is during this post-Cross period that we who are saved by grace through faith in Christ are commanded to fulfil Our Instruction To 'Love' in the same selfless way that Christ loved us. So exalted is Christ's new command to Christians, that it surpasses our human understanding and is a human impossibility unless we abide in Him and He in us, without Christ we can do nothing. We are wretched men and women indeed if we seek to carry out this command (or indeed any of God's commandments) in our own strength. Jesus said, "Without Me you can do nothing," but thank God that we can do all things through Christ, Who enables us. We are to be saved by grace through faith, and then live by grace through faith in Christ (abide in Him and He in us) in order to be able to love as Christ loved and thus fulfil His commands. In John 15, he explains how to obey the commandments of Christ. We are to abide in Christ: "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in them, they will bare much spiritual fruit (godly love), apart from Me you can do nothing. Apart from me You cannot love as I have loved and the one who does this, abides in Him and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit Whom He has given us." 1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that even while we were sinners, Christ died for us and by believing in His name, we have been brought into Your family. We pray that we may learn to abide in Christ and He in us so that we may love as Christ loved and bring forth the fruit of love in our lives, for God and for others. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. |
