Christ's Sermon on the Mount is an extended teaching that covers numerous distinct yet interconnected topics of Christian life and godly living. Not only are we to explore the inner motive of our heart with regard to our personal words and actions, but we are to consider our conduct towards others and appraise our attitude towards our neighbor. Jesus warned against sanctimonious and self-righteous praying that was practiced by the religious leaders of the day. They turned their prayers into a prideful exhibition of self-proclaimed righteousness, instead of humbly seeking the Lord with all their heart. He warned His followers that such ostentatious behavior was not only hypocritical and dishonoring to the Lord, but that such prayers would not be heard by God. We are to ask our Heavenly Father for the things we need and we are to keep on asking. We are to present our simple petitions to the One that has promised to provide for all our needs and comfort all our heartaches. We Are To Knock And Keep On Knocking. We are to knock with patient endurance and steadfast perseverance. We are to knock with confidence and humility even when life's circumstances seem to test our faith and sap our strength. We are to knock and keep on knocking even when the prowling enemy of our soul tries to cause our hearts to faint. Let us be persistent in our united prayer life and impassioned in our praying. Let us ask in faith, seek diligently, and knock frequently, knowing that He is a God that hears and answers prayer. Let us use the privilege of prayer wisely, reverently, discreetly, and for His greater praise and glory. Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, thank You for breaking down the barrier between God and mankind and permitting us to come into Your holy presence in prayer, for mercy to find help in time of need. Help us all to pray and keep on praying in spirit and in truth. Help us to pray purposefully and persistently, and in accordance with Your will. May we learn to ask in faith, to seek You with all our hearts, and to knock with patient endurance so that we may live according to Your will. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

It is God Who spoke His creative Word over the dark earth in the beginning, and it is same Spirit Who brooded over the face of the deep Who dispels the darkness in our hearts at salvation. It is He Who floods the glorious light of the gospel of Christ into a hurting soul. The illuminating light of His sufficiency and knowledge, His wisdom and grace, His truth and His power, is reflected in the shining face of the wonderful Lord Jesus. The light of the glorious gospel of grace is streamed into the hearts of all who seek Him with all their whole being. May each of us Treasure The Light We Have in our hearts and remember that no matter where we are, what we do, or however dark the path we tread, the Light of the World is not only with us but dwells in our heart, and will fill our inner being with His perfect peace when our mind is stayed on Him. 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, thank You for the Light You have given us in the face of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. It is only through His sufficient sacrifice, that we have been so blessed. Without the shining Light of the Spirit of Christ within, we would have continued to wallow in the darkness of the world. May the light of Your truth, love, and compassion, shine in us and reflect from us the glories of Jesus. May Your name may be glorified in all we say and do. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Prayer Is A Precious Privilege that all who are born from above have received from Almighty God. We have been given access to the Lord for mercy to find help in time of need. Prayer can be powerful but prayer is an important means we have been given to approach our Heavenly Father, in faith. God alone is the power behind our prayers. It is not the flowery language we use that is important to the Lord. Nor is it the meaningless repetition of a string of religious words or some man-inspired 'declaration' to which God responds. It is a heart that trusts in His power to save which moves the heart of our mighty God. The Lord is the One Who hears our pleas and it is by His power that He answers our cries. We are to pray for church leaders and those that educate our children. We are to pray for those in authority at home and work, for queens and parliament, for president and congress, for judges, commanders, bosses, and the heads of our families. God often hears the petitions of His people as we cry to Him for godly rulers, but at times He allows ungodly leadership to be appointed to bring His people to repentance and to return the wandering soul to the God of their salvation. Let us make sure that today, and for the rest of our life on earth, we offer entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, on behalf of all. Let us pray for all who are in authority so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2:2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God Who hears and answers the prayers of Your children that are offered in humility of heart and a trusting, dependent faith. We lift up the leaders of our own nation and pray that You would hear our plea for godly leadership. Forgive us that as a nation, we have strayed so far from You. We ask that, in Your grace, You would give us leaders that trust Your name and honor Your laws. Lord, we acknowledge that until Jesus is reigning as King of kings, the world cannot live in peace and safety, but we pray that in Your grace, You would give us and our children and our children's children, quiet lives in all godliness and dignity with leaders that will not compromise the truth of Your Word. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. This call to confession is not a summons to the confessional box where a 'priest' becomes a middleman between us and God, there is one God and one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus. He Alone Is The One To Whom We Confess Our Sins. This is not a call to expose our secret sins to the whole wide world, we are to confess our sins to God and He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we have wronged another person we are called to go to them quickly and admit our sin and seek their forgiveness, this is the will of God for us. We are also called to willingly, graciously, and fervently pray for each other, as we lift up those who may have wronged us to the Lord in prayer, the fellowship of His love will stream into our hearts and minds, removing any nagging bitterness or residue of unforgiveness. We are called to be holy for God is holy, but it is only as we confess our sins to one another and to our Father in heaven, that fellowship is renewed and our prayers become effective. James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we desire to maintain fellowship with You and to walk godly in Christ Jesus. Help us to recognize our faults and quickly seek Your forgiveness. Help us also to confess our faults to those we have wronged, and we pray that we may maintain attitudes of prayer and learn to pray fervently in spirit and truth so that in Christ our prayers may be effective and avail much, to Your honor and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. Christ uses the parable of the widow woman and the unjust judge to encourage us to be continually in prayer, to Pray Without Ceasing, and to remain in constant communion with the Lord as we petition Him for the blessings we need from His gracious hand, especially when those blessings seem to be delayed. This is not a teaching that describes a God as a worldly judge Who is reluctant to bestow His blessings, but rather a generous Father Who gives good gifts to all His children. Nor are we likened to some lonely, poverty-stricken, unsupported widow, for we are children of God, beloved of the Father, accepted in the Beloved, and inheritors of the kingdom of heaven. We do not have to grovel for meager scraps at the bench of an unbelieving judge, for we have free and open access into the throne of grace and the riches of His love in Christ Jesus so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. His delay is not inactivity or disinterest, but a preparation to make all things work together for good, to those that love God and are called according to His purpose. Luke 18:7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to maintain trusting attitudes of prayer, knowing that any perceived delay is Your willing preparation. Thank You that You are holy and righteous and will avenge Your elect and make all things right in Your own perfect timing. Thank You that You are our Father, and we are Your children. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. Today we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus. He provided a new and living way for us to pray to our Father in heaven. During His earthly ministry, prayer was not only a vital part of life, but a subject about which the Lord taught often and an issue that should rejoice our hearts and become a vital element of our Christian walk. Some like to teach that communal prayer with other brothers and sisters in Christ, is unbiblical, but this teaching does not prohibit public prayer, but is specifically geared towards our own, individual, private prayer-time, where a child of God enjoys communion with his or her heavenly Father, coming to the throne of grace because of their identity with Christ Jesus our Lord. Prayer Is Intimate Communion With Our God, and the necessity to take time alone with the Lord in secret prayer, cannot be over-emphasized. Prayer is the breath of the soul which continuously reaches out in helplessness to the God Who made us, and Who redeemed us with His own precious blood. Prayer is an attitude of heart that cries out to the tender Father-heart of God for intimacy and close communion. Prayer is the combining of mankind's' helplessness with his or her faith in God's gracious provision, and prayer translates into a heart that trust in His never-ending love. Let us pray day by day in the quietness of our own particular, private, prayer 'closet'. Prayer is one of the most vital and special prerogatives that Christians have been afforded in this Church age of grace. Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift and privilege of prayer. Thank You that we have access to Your throne of grace, for help in time of need. You alone are worthy of our grateful thanks and praise for this unparalleled birth-right. Renew in us increasing desires to know You more, and to love You better with each passing day. Purge from us any petty attitudes that may hinder our fellowship with You. Instill in us deepening desires to linger in Your presence and to praise You unceasingly, in spirit and truth. Develop in our hearts attitudes of worshipful prayer, so that our communion with You becomes the essential essence of our very lives on earth. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. Multiplied calls to prayer are found throughout Scripture, and many men and women in the pages of the Bible are also found travailing in prayer to God. We are to pray without ceasing, to pray everywhere, and to pray in spirit and truth. Christ Himself was discovered throughout His earthly life in earnest prayer to His Heavenly Father, and we would do well to take heed of the reason for prayer. Prayer expresses a need that we are unable to satisfy. It is an acknowledgment that we live in total dependence upon the Lord. The essence of all prayer is an admission of utter helplessness combined with absolute confidence in God to supply all our needs according to His great riches in His great glory. When we live in an attitude of prayer, when we pray without ceasing, we are simply maintaining the ongoing and constant attitude of simple, child-like trust and helpless dependence upon the Father. To pray in the Spirit is only possible when we are living in unbroken fellowship with the Father, for a life that is living, walking, and praying in spirit and truth is one is submitted to His leading and guidance, for the one that lives in helpless submission and dependent upon the Holy Spirit, is the one that truly prays in the spirit. Further, We Are Not To Limit Our Prayers to those things that we consider appropriate, but we are to pray about all things with every kind of prayer, in the same helpless dependence upon God, knowing that He is not only willing and powerful enough to answer all our pleadings but are trusting Him, in His wisdom, to do only that which is best for us. Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, prayer is such a precious gift that You have given to us. Help us to live and pray in attitudes of helpless dependence on You. May we be alert and diligent in every kind of prayer. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. |
