Freedom is a condition for which all we long for but even in the comparative freedom of today's western world, we are far from free. Each one is restricted in many ways. We are limited by laws of the land... the air... the sea... and the sky. We are also regulated by government laws, federal laws, taxes, and an array of intrusions into our own personal lives, which seem to multiply with every passing year as the invasion of diverse technologies and statutory requirements to which we are forever chained, scrutinize us and regulate our every move. When Jesus spoke these words, He was speaking to the Jews of His day who refused to accept His offer of Salvation. Jesus had come to offer the Jews of His time Freedom From Bondage To Sin and liberty from enslavement to the sin nature. But they refused to admit they were sinners in need of a Savior, and so they closed the only door to freedom and refused to walk down the only path to liberty. As slaves to sin we are all wretched individuals that need to be freed from the stranglehold of sin and yet we find that we are a fallen race of sinners who are enslaved by its power. The sin that we do not want to do is the very thing that we do. The good things that we want to do are the very things that we do not do! We who are members of the Body of Christ have the opportunity to be set free from slavery to sin, by faith in HIM. Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank You that we have been released from the vice-like hold that sin has on our lives. Thank You in Jesus' name the penalty of sin has been paid in full and the power of sin has been broken in our lives. Thank You that in Christ we have the power of the Spirit of God to hold us steady as we allow the life of Christ to rule in our hearts. Thank You, Father, that in Christ we are no longer slaves of sin but have been set free through Him Who loved us and gave Himself for us. Praise His holy name, AMEN. |
