PRAYING TOGETHER AS A FAMILY
Human nature generally indicates that we are able to love the people who love us. Unsaved men and women prove this to be true. Loving those that love us comes naturally, and although there may well be a selfish motive underlying human love, Jesus tells us that if you only love those that love you, there is no credit connected with this in God's divine administration. Loving, lending, and giving to others, too often has an ulterior motive. Financial institutions, for example, only lend to those they are confident will repay. But, whether it's a friendly bank or a kindly person lending to others, there is generally an expectation that they will be receiving some sort of remuneration. This may be the way of the world, but Jesus introduced a heavenly standard that can only be implemented in a redeemed life - as empowered from above. Jesus called upon us to love our enemies as well as our friends. We are to love our adversaries and pray for those that are antagonistic towards us. We are to love those that oppose us and are hostile towards us, and we are exhorted to do good to them. Jesus even calls us to do good and to lend to others while expecting nothing in return. This is not normal human behavior, but is unmistakably The Conduct The Lord Expects from a Christian who is honoring Him in their action towards others. This teaching of the Lord Jesus has nothing to do with justification. We do not become children of God by being good or offering interest-free loans to other people. We are saved by grace through faith in the sacrificial work and glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ - and this is non negotiable. May the love and grace of Christ fill our hearts, so that we will manifest the love of God to others, in word and in deed, and become a reflection of Christ Jesus our Savior and bring honor and glory to His holy name. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, our own, human love is found wanting and without the love of Christ flowing through us, We are incapable of living as You would have us to live. Fill us, day by day, with the love of Christ so that we may love our enemies, pray for those that despitefully use us, and show goodness and grace to others in need. Help us to reflect the godly characteristics of Christ in our everyday life, to His praise and glory. This we ask in His precious name, AMEN. To Achieve The Peace OF God that we all desire so deeply, sinful humans must first have peace WITH God, through faith in Jesus Christ. When He came to earth so many years ago, the Lord Jesus came to finish the transgression to make an end of sin, and to make atonement for iniquity through His sacrificial death so that He could bring in everlasting righteousness, seal up vision and prophecy, and anoint the most holy place. Although Christ is Prince of Peace and will one day reign on earth as King of kings and Lord of lords, He knew that His message of salvation would cause tremendous division, even splitting precious family relationships, because the message of the Cross is diametrically opposed to the old sin nature of humans. We are called to proclaim the truth of God's Word, even when it is unpopular. We are called to be a light to the world and to stand up for what is right. This is not an easy battle, but one that we must fight with courage and faith. When we do, we can be sure that God will be with us, fighting for us and giving us the strength we need to stand firm in our faith. True peace can only be found in a relationship with Jesus. He is our source of strength and courage. Let us cling to Him, seek His counsel, and trust Him to lead us in the paths of righteousness. Through Him, we can have true and lasting peace, no matter what storms may come our way. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to us. We know that through His death, we are made right with You. We recognize that His coming was not to bring peace in the world, but to bring a sword that is able to divide the world between those who will accept His love and those who will reject it. Give us courage to stand for the truth of Your Word even in the face of opposition. Help us to trust in You even when it means going against the world. As we face these conflicts, fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus' name we Pray, Amen. Faith sets no limit on God's ability, for the one who is ready and willing to trust Him in all things, submit to His will, and not permit mountainous problems or seemingly impossible situations to adversely influence their faith in God's ability, is the one who will witness great things in their life. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and His ability to heal the broken-hearted, cast out demons, set the captive free, make the lame to walk, the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak, has never diminished over time. Nothing is too difficult for You. “’If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons we can learn from the man who cried out to the Lord Jesus for help and was reminded that "all things are possible to those who believe." May we never forget that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that Your power to heal and help in every situation, is as sure today as it was when You healed the sick and turned water into wine. Thank You that by grace through faith in Jesus, we can come to the throne of grace for mercy to find help in time of need. Keep us from doubting Your Word, increase our faith in the days ahead, and prevent us from being adversely influenced by the mountainous situations we seem to be facing. Lord, we do believe. Increase our love and trust for You. In Jesus' name we Pray, AMEN. The Lord knows the importance of differentiating between a genuine minister and a vicious wolf. Only those who are saved by grace, abiding in Christ, walking in the spirit, and maintaining fellowship with the Father, can bring forth the fruit of righteousness. Others make a pretense of spirituality, professing to know Him with their lips while hiding a heart of unbelief and rebellion. God alone is able to read the heart of religious leaders. Only God Can Discern Human Thoughts and knows if faith is genuine. Only He knows if humans are doing His will or not. God is omniscient, but we are not! We are incapable of reading someone's heart. We have no supernatural ability to read men's minds and so He gave us a bona fide indicator of the state of a human's heart. It is God's will that we admonish unruly brethren, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone, and refuse to repay evil with evil. True ministers encourage one another and seek after that which is good, which brings glory to God. The godly minister rejoices in the Lord, prays without ceasing, and gives thanks in everything, knowing that this is God's will for all His children. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the warnings of false prophets and teachers in your Word. We pray that you would guard the hearts and minds of all your children and protect them from false prophets and ungodly teachers who seek to devour your flock. Help us all to identify the fruit of those in positions of leadership in the Church who come to us in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. Lord, give us discernment to know the truth and reject those who do not honor Your will. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. God is holy and He cannot look upon sin, while humans are sinners who have sin natures which are always and forever at enmity with God. This state of affairs causes a total and eternal separation to exist between God and man - and between man and God. When unregenerate humans fall into the hands of an angry God, it is a terrible thing. But when it is the people of God who choose to make alliances with unregenerate nations instead of trusting in the God of their salvation Who bought them with His precious blood, it is indeed, a shocking indictment. Do we trust in the works of humans or place our faith in the strength of fleshly achievements? Do we put our confidence in our bank balance, our negotiating skills, or our government's provision? Do we place our hope in our personal abilities, the achievements of humans, the works of the flesh, or ungodly alliances? Or, do we Trust In The Lord Our God with all our heart and place our hope in His unfailing love and promised provision? This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God Who never changes. Thank You that Your love and grace is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Forgive us for the times that we have wandered far away from You and drunk from the broken cisterns of this world. May we never place our trust in humans nor put our confidence in our own abilities by depending on works of the flesh or trusting in our own strength. Let us not be enticed away from Your Word of truth and help us to keep the eyes of our hearts and the meditation of our minds on the Lord Jesus, for He alone is worthy. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. |
