This verse reminds us that everything we do should be done to the glory of God. And whether we find ourselves to be alone or in the company of others, whether we are thrust into the business of every-day life or quietly confined to the isolation of a sick-bed, our attitudes and actions should be such that they are a positive reflection of God's glory. Whenever we are faced with a choice in life, there are two important considerations that should help guide our behavior. Firstly, does my conduct or choice glorify the Lord and secondly, could my action or attitude negativity impact my Christian testimony or have a detrimental effect on my fellow man. May we take to heart this simple instruction. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." Our United Prayer:
Oh Lord God, how we long to be the ones whose lives are living testimonies to Your goodness and grace and whose only desire is to live our lives to glorify You. Take our lives, Lord, and may Your will be done in all we say and do today and every day. Use us as vessels to Your praise and glory - in such a way that You increase, and we decrease, until it is Christ living in and through us, to His praise and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. We were assigned with a sin nature through Adam, and the only One that is righteous is the Lord Jesus. But to those that believe, Christ Jesus IS our righteousness, and His righteousness comes to us from God on the basis of faith. He is the God of righteousness, and those who are in Christ are clothed in His righteousness. In the power of the Holy Spirit, we are being changed into His likeness and conformed more and more to His image. How blessed are those that hunger and thirst for the righteousness of Christ, for they shall indeed be satisfied - in HIM. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied." Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, we long for Christ more and more. we hunger and thirst for righteousness in this world and in our own lives. We are so thankful that Jesus clothed us in His righteousness when we trusted in Him for salvation. Help us to nail my self-righteous efforts to the Cross and be guided, day by day, by the Holy Spirit into all truth, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN. We are to take every thought captive, the moment it starts to steal into our heart. We are to seek after the way of righteousness, peace, truth, and love, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to cast all our cares upon Him. Let us nurture that attitude of prayer as we wake in the morning, lie down at night, and undertake the necessary duties of the day. Let us seek after righteousness, handing over every circumstance of life to Him as we take every thought captive to His guidance so that we too may have lips that praise the Lord and a mouth that sends forth words that rise like sweet incense to our Father in heaven. "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!" Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we are sorry for all the times our words have been harsh, untrue, or unhelpful. Help us to take every thought captive so that the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts may always be acceptable to You, our God and our Redeemer. Lead us and guide us in the things that we should say, whether to speak up, or remain silent. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. The weapon that we are to use to defeat all our foes in this earthly walk is the Bible, provided for us by our Heavenly Father. The holy Scriptures that have been penned by the prophets and divinely inspired of the Holy Spirit for our learning, is the blade that will cut through every attack from the enemy. With such a weapon as the Sword of the Spirit, the many examples of Jesus Himself wielding that weapon so effectively, and the promises pertaining to the Word, let us all buckle on the armor that God has provided, and firmly grasp hold of the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, in both our heart and our hands so that we too may be able to stand firm in the evil day against the devil's wicked schemes. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God," Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the many provisions You have made for our protection against the evil enemy that seeks to defeat and destroy our trust in You. Thank You for our salvation, through faith in Jesus. Teach us Your Word so that we may be effective in our life-walk with You and our witness to others. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Do we love the Giver even more that the gracious gifts that He has poured in abundance into out laps? Do we seek the Lord Himself in preference to the multiplied blessings and precious promises that are ours.. by grace through faith in Christ? Do we unreservedly confess our dependence upon the Lord and unconditionally acknowledge Him to be sovereign in our life. Do we cast all our cares on Him. Do we lie down in peace and sleep secure in the knowledge that He is in control? No matter what difficulty we may be facing, despite the depths of despair to which we may fall, we must always confess our dependence on the Lord and acknowledge the sovereignty of the Lord our God for: "In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we have scarce scratched the surface of Your grace and goodness towards us, in that You sent Your only begotten Son to die on the cross to pay the punishment that we deserve. Our love is poor and weak and our thoughts and prayers are too often motivated from selfish desires and a lack of understanding of Who You are.. and what You have done for us. Increase our desire and love for You and help us to become, “people after God's own heart', and desire You above all things, in Jesus name we pray, AMEN. His ways are not our ways - and His answers to our worries often differ from the way we would have solved them. But surely the Creator of the world knows the absolute best for His children. Don't forget that He "is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think," and all His ways are just, and all His paths are peace if we would but trust Him. So let us take the Lord at His Word and trust Him. When we are faced with a 'worry' let us simply claim His promises of provision, His support, and sufficiency, for all His promises are 'yes' and 'amen' in Christ Jesus our Lord. "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, we confess that we find it quite easy to worry but we realize this is foolishness and a demonstration of our lack of faith in Your great and precious promises. Thank You for giving us the example of the little birds who simply rely on Your loving provision and protection. May we rest in Your love, knowing that You will provide for all our needs according to Your riches in glory. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Anger can be exhibited in many forms, from silent contempt or the smoldering of a hidden grudge, to an explosion of cursing or the eruption of ridiculous behavior - but the Bible clearly states that: "Anger is hidden in the hearts of fools." Let us seek to avoid all evil and live godly lives during our time on earth, and let us endeavor to reverence our Heavenly Father and ensure that every moment of our life is sacred to the Lord, for His praise and glory. Let us refrain from the unrighteous anger that lodges in the hearts of fools and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness - and may it be the deep desire of our hearts to do all to the honor of His name. "Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, prevent us from nursing foolish anger in our hearts. Endow us with godly wisdom and a gracious spirit so that we may reflect the beauty of Jesus in our lives and be witnesses to Your goodness and grace, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Why is the act of forgiveness so difficult for some people? Why does it seem easier to let the root of bitterness grow in our hearts, rather than humbling ourselves, asking for forgiveness and forgiving another who has hurt or wronged us? It seems to be the case that those who are not able to forgive have never come to an understanding how much they have been forgiven. The more understanding we have of the grace that we have received the deeper our gratitude and the greater our capacity to forgive other people becomes. Let us be those who are quick to forgive, quick to ask for forgiveness, and in so doing glorify our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace, mercy, love, and immeasurable forgiveness toward us. May we reflect You in our thoughts, words, and deeds. We pray that we will be kind, compassionate, and forgiving toward others, just as You forgave us. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Christ's abiding in us is dependent on our abiding in Him. This mutual fellowship and intimate communion is conditional upon each one of us dying to self and living for Him alone.. And when we are enabled to abide in Him and He in us we will ask whatever we wish and it will be done - because our heart will reflect the heart of Christ.. our choices will reflect the will of God and our prayers will pray into the very issues that are closest to the heart of the Lord Himself.. as in His power and might we abide in Him and He in us - to His praise and glory. "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that we have been saved by grace through faith in Christ.. but we realize that our thoughts need to be aligned to Your thoughts... our hearts need to be reflecting Your heart.. our minds need to become the very mind of Christ.. so that our prayers can say with honesty and faithfulness, as we pray into Your will.. so that whatsoever we ask may be done to honor You. Thank You in Jesus name, AMEN. His great love for all His children, the Lord continues to plead with every one of His born-again children, to yield to the call of his voice and live godly in Christ Jesus: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." One day all believers will be taken to be with the Lord Jesus, whether or not they submitted to the sanctifying work of the Spirit in their daily lives. Should we not harken to the call of our Lord Who died so that we might live in newness of life - submitted to His Spirit? Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we know that our hearts are not as fervently in love with you as they should be. Thank You for Your grace and long-suffering patience with us. We confess we have quenched the Spirit in our lives with our indifferent attitudes. We want to change and live in submission to You. We pray that we would open the door of our hearts to Jesus to come and fellowship with us, for in Him is fullness of joy. In Jesus' name, AMEN. Let us plead that the heart's desires of others are gifted to them, as to ourselves, so that the will of the Father becomes the personal pleadings of our own hearts. When our will and purpose reflects the will and purpose of God, and His desires become the dear desires of our heart, the life that we live translates into His best will for us, and we will live to His praise and glory and fulfil the whole purpose for which we were created. "May he grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans!" Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, so much of our lives has been seeking our own desires, which are empty vessels, unless filled to the brim with You and with Your will. May our hearts and minds be increasingly conformed into the likeness of Christ, and may we grow in grace, so that we are increasingly sensitive to Your desires and make them the longing of our hearts within us. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. To preach the truth in love may require us to patiently and compassionately correct a brother or sister who has been led astray from the Word of truth. It may require us to follow scriptural guidelines to rebuke or challenge a person or ministry, but any admonishment should never be aggressively or deliberately confrontational. Preaching the Word is often to encourage and exhort Christ as we watch and wait for the day of return of the Lord Jesus for His Church. God has spoken in His Word, and we would do well to take note of what He says. Then we truly will be equipped to: "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching." Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, we pray that our lives, in word and deed, may be a sermon to others. Give us, we pray, a correct understanding of the truth of Your Word. Prevent us from adding our own fallible interpretation of Your Word, but may we rightly divide and preach the Word of truth. In Jesus' name, AMEN. The only way to grow mature in the Christian faith is to put away all the influences and characteristics of the old sin nature that are exhibited in a wide range of outward actions, inward attitudes, and secret motives that are not acceptable to God. Rather, we are to imitate the beautiful life that Christ lived by living our life in the same way that Christ did , by walking in spirit, sharing the truth in love, growing in grace, and learning obedience through the things that we suffer. "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children." Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, We want to be more and more like Christ, to walk in newness of life, and to truly be a life where Christ can be seen in us. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN. Many are called to come unto Him and find rest for their soul.. and many respond and are saved by grace through faith.. but only a few are chosen to follow in the difficult and painful path of discipleship. Many come to Him for the salvation of their soul but few come after Him in meekness of spirit. Few are prepared to take up their own cross and follow Him in humble obedience to His word and willing submission to His will. May we all desire with our whole being to be a living sacrifice, where we die to self and live for Christ, so that we may become true disciples, who willingly and obediently take up our cross and follow Him. "Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank You that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ's finished work on Calvary - but Lord we want to be Your disciples and to take up our own cross daily and follow You in humble obedience. We pray that we may willingly submit to Your will in every area of our lives and to share in Christ's sufferings, so that we may be continuously transformed by His death into the likeness of Christ, to Your praise and glory. This we pray in Jesus name, AMEN. Throughout the course of history, humanity continues its endless search for something that is beyond human knowledge. The human race marches on, seeking answers that are beyond our comprehension because our infinite, unfathomable, God has designed us with a hunger for more - a hunger that nothing but He Himself can suffice. God has done all things appropriately and well and He has set eternity in the heart of all of us so that those who seek Him with all their heart will find rest for their soul in Him, and receive the gift of eternal life, through faith in Christ, He has promised that whosoever will - may come. "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we truly worship and praise You, that You are our great Creator, Who has made everything beautiful in its time and appropriate to complete Your plans and purposes. Thank You that You made us in Your image and likeness and that in Your grace have set eternity in the hearts of all people. Help us to surrender to Your sovereign will; to establish You on the throne of our lives and to trust You to fulfil Your perfect plan and purposes in each of our lives. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. |
