We try to fulfill God's call in our lives, but discover that circumstances appear to contradict our expectations, and we start to question God's character, God's concern, and God's care for us, so we start to murmur and ask, "Why?" But only as we look away from ourselves, our problems, and our own limited perspectives, and call to mind the greater reality of His loving-mercies, deep-compassion, and long-suffering, do we recognize the steadfast love of the Lord which never ceases. Only as we turn our eyes away from our own disappointments and look to His wider purpose and plan, do we discover that His mercies never come to an end, for they are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness. Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, how we praise and thank You that you are a gracious and loving God. Help us not to be influenced by the circumstances of our lives, but rather help us to keep the eyes of our hearts on You, knowing that Your plans and purposes are perfect. Thank You, Father, for Your steadfast love toward all Your children which is new every morning. All glory to Your holy name, AMEN. Although we all have an assurance that the Lord knew each one of us before we were born and has scheduled each day of our lives, very few prophets were consecrated by God before they were born and appointed to be a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah did not aspire to become a prophet or attend a school of prophets to learn the skills of 'profiteering' as is the case with many false prophets. He was not a prophet because of his ancestry nor did he receive it as an honorary entitlement. Jeremiah may have been divinely chosen and empowered by God for his prophetic ministry, but he was a man who was humanly hesitant and reluctant to take up this God-ordained role... and he was a man who had to endure much hardship during his ministry because of his God-ordained position. Just as God had a call on Jeremiah's life, He has a call on the life of all who trust in Christ by faith, and God can use anyone in the furtherance of his redemptive plan if we are willing to submit to Him and be used by Him. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder in Jeremiah that you formed each one of us in the womb and thank You that You have scheduled every day of our lives. Thank You for the example of Jeremiah the prophet who was willing to suffer hardship, loneliness, pain, and rejection for the furtherance of Your will and to pen portions of holy Scripture for our learning. We pray that from this day forward, our lives may be dedicated to You and that You would use us to fulfil Your will in our lives, for Your greater praise and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. The Light of which Isaiah prophesied was to be so brilliant that it was to embrace every man, woman, and child, born into this world. It was to be a Light that extended back to a time before the worlds were made - and it was to be a glittering Light that reached forward into the farthest extremities and widest dimensions of the eternal ages to come. It was to be a Light that would blaze its illuminating rays throughout this shrouded world.. and the dark blackness that envelops the world would never overcome it. No surprise that His Name is called Wonderful Counsellor, for His deep love fills angels and men with awe-struck admiration. His wise counsel generates stunned amazement. Who but the Mighty God of love and justice, could have imagined that the shame and humiliation of the Cross would result in the shattering forever of hell's deep darkness and it's terrifying eternal damnation. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Our United Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for sending Jesus as the Light of the world to enlighten everyone coming into the world. Thank You that in Him is the light of the glorious gospel of grace that can never be quenched by the darkness of this world. We praise and thank You that His Light has came into our lives and enlivened our spirits and enlightened our souls. Open our eyes more and more to see Jesus and to grow more like Him. Give us greater understanding of all that You have achieved in our lives, for without You we would remain in darkness and dead in our sins. Thank You for Your great salvation, to You be all praise and glory forever. In the name of Jesus we pray, AMEN. From start to finish, the book of Ecclesiastes declares the utter futility and complete meaninglessness of life without God. Whether it is referring to work or pleasure, wisdom or wealth, power or prestige, entertainment or virility, life or death, ALL is considered futile and worthless when God is excluded from the equation. HOWEVER, there is one verse that identifies the meaning and purpose of life: "When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter under consideration is: fear God and keep His commands, for this is the whole duty of all mankind." “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for this honest assessment of living life in this fallen world, without Christ. Keep us from chasing after any of the vain things that this world offers, knowing that there is nothing on earth that has lasting value except to know You. May we place You in the center of our lives, knowing that the whole duty and delight of all is to worship and praise You for Your goodness and grace to all people. In Jesus' name, AMEN. Today, we are flooded with worldly wisdom and swamped with knowledge and instruction from every section of humanity, but unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain to build it. How important to trust in the LORD with all our heart, to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and not to lean on our own understanding, to do so demonstrates a prideful respect for self and not a reverential fear of the Lord. Jesus is the foundation upon which our knowledge is founded, and He alone commands our reverential fear, humble worship, and eternal devotion, in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, when we are positioned in Him. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and convicting us of sin, righteousness, and judgement, and thank You that by faith in Christ we have been brought into Your kingdom and placed into His Body. To You alone belongs our reverential fear, humble worship, and eternal devotion, through time and into eternity. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. The first verse of this opening Psalm gives a precise statement between the two choices every person is given in life. We can choose God's way and take the path of righteousness and peace-with-God, OR we can follow the downward road of the wicked, the sinners, the scoffers, and those that rebel against the Lord. We can choose life or death: Oh, the happiness of those who truly walk in God’s ways and does not compromise with the fallen, world system. May we nail our spiritual colors to the mast of our little boats, walk in a manner that is worthy of the calling wherewith we were called, and may we not be ashamed of the gospel of Christ, it is the power of God to all who believe. Blessed, indeed, are the ones that walk in the path of righteousness and do not consider in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, it is our desire that we too walk in Your ways and keep from foolish compromise with the world system. Keep our hearts set on the Lord Jesus so that our thoughts are not influenced by the mindset of this current age. May we be like the man planted by Your many rivers of grace a love, joy and peace. May Your mercy and compassion flow through us to those around us, in the place where you have planted us. In Jesus' name, AMEN. Since the dawn of Adam's race when man's dominion over the earth had been foolishly relinquished to this fallen angel, due to Adam's sinful disobedience, we discover that authority over the earth remains under the jurisdiction of this evil being - even to this day. Jesus is the rightful King over all the earth, for His redeeming blood paid the purchase price for lost humanity, and in His goodness and grace, He has appointed all who believe in His sacrificial death and Resurrection, to rule and reign with Him in His coming kingdom. What amazing grace. What awesome love. What incredible mercy. What breath-taking righteousness. What a wonderful Savior! One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for this peep into the spiritual realm. Thank You that the rule of sin and Satan over Your beautiful earth will soon be over. We praise You that despite Adam and Eve’s sin, the abdication of their responsibility, and the relinquishment of man’s dominion over the earth to Satan – that by Your grace, You sent the Lord Jesus to pay the price for our sins and redeem us from a lost eternity. By grace through faith in Him, we are forgiven of our sins and given eternal life. Help us to live for Him during our time on earth, no matter what pain and suffering we may be called upon to go through. In Jesus’ name, AMEN. Nehemiah prayed in faith and with expectation, that the Lord would respond to His pleas.. and his prayer is a wonderful example of how we should approach God's throne of grace - for mercy to find help in time of need. Nehemiah prayed, "I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who preserves the covenant He made, and shows lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments. Let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your servant, and your people, which I am praying before You now, day and night.. confessing the sins of the sons of Israel, which we have sinned against You; I and my father's house have sinned... Remember Thy word... O Lord, I beseech You. May Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant who delights to revere Your name." May we all learn a lesson from this godly man, who grieved for the terrible demise of his city. He wept for God's people, repented of his sins and those of his nation. He fasted in hope, prayed in faith, and believed that God would fulfil His plans and purposes, for His name's sake - and we should do the same. When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, too often we have tried to deal with the problems in our lives, instead of flying to Your throne of grace for mercy and help in time of need. We pray that our faith may increase and our prayer life may reflect the continuous communion that the Lord Jesus enjoyed with You, in His earthly life. We pray that we may learn to approach You in confidence and in reverence. Help us to pray into Your will and purpose. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Discouragement and fear are two of the main weapons in the satanic armoury of our enemies. The first step is to dishearten God's people - to crush their spirit, depress their soul, demoralise their confidence in God, and dash their hopes into the ground. Once someone has become downhearted, disappointed, and despondent, the next weapon is fear. Fear is the opposite of faith, for when fear increases it causes faith to decrease - and when faith stands firm on the promises of God, fear flees far away, just as Scripture teaches. 'RESIST the enemy' is the instruction from James, the apostle, "Submit to God. Resist the devil, and if you do, the enemy will flee from you." The biblical way to dispel fear is to rejoice in the Lord, no matter what difficulties or dangers we face. God would have us to learn. May we foster a teachable spirit and develop a willingness to put the lessons we learn into practice, as we occupy until Jesus comes, so that we may finish the good work that God has prepared for us to do and hear Him say, "well done good and faithful servant." Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that we are part of the Body of Christ, and that we are being built into a spiritual Temple for Your greater glory. Keep us from falling prey to discouragement and fear, we realize that they are counter-productive to a fruitful Christian life. We pray that we may rejoice with all the saints and worship before Your throne, knowing that the joy of the Lord strengthens the inner person and helps us to grow in grace and in a knowledge of Jesus. We pray that we may submit our lives to you and be ready to resist the devil, whether he comes as an angel of light or a roaring lion, and we pray that we may finish the good work that You have prepared for us to do, for our eternal benefit and Your greater glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. Solomon's prayer demonstrates God's willingness to listen to the private prayers of individuals, as well as the collective intercessions of the people of God. And Solomon's prayer indicates the importance of being specific, as we make our requests to the Lord, and of praying into His perfect will and purpose - in spirit and in truth. May we take time to demonstrate in our own prayer-life, a like-minded trust in the goodness and faithfulness of our God and Father - for we have a great assurance that He hears and answers the prayers of His children, when they come from a heart that is in fellowship with Him. then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind, Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God Who hears and answers the prayers of Your children, when they pray in faith, and trust in Your never-failing faithfulness. Thank You that You are a faithful and righteous God, Who renders to each one of us according to our individual ways. Keep our hearts pure towards You, for You alone can read the thoughts of the heart, and the imagination of the mind. May the words of our mouths, the thoughts of our hearts, the meditation of our minds, and the motives behind our thinking, be always acceptable to You. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; tell of all His wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, how we rejoice in You, for You are good and Your grace and mercy endure forever. We give thanks to You and glory in Your holy name, for Your glory reaches to the heavens. Lord, our hearts are filled with great gladness and joy when we rejoice over You. Thank You for sending Jesus to pay the price for our sins. Thank You that He is with us every moment of the day, and thank You that He is coming again with great glory and majesty. We worship and praise Your holy name for all Your goodness to all your children. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. Sometimes we find ourselves passing through life not quite understanding why certain things are taking place in our lives, but, if we are prepared to listen to His still small voice and follow His gentle commands, we will all one day gaze in awe and wonder at the whole, magnificent tapestry of life... of which we are one small part. Remember, He takes our personal situation, and from it selects the method and means to get our attention, in order to teach us a deeper truth about Himself. He wants to draw us into a more intimate fellowship with our heavenly Father. Let us keep our ears open to the gentle softness of His still, small voice, for He continues to speak into the lives of all who have ears to hear. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we are humbled to realize that You have included us and our lives, as part of Your plan for humanity. We realize more and more that we must decrease in every area of our lives and entrust all circumstances into Your gracious hands... so that You may increase, and we may decrease. Use us, Lord, as You will, in Your wider plans and purposes, and develop in us understanding hearts and listening ears to hear all You have to say to us. Teach us the lessons that You would have us to learn and keep us looking to Jesus. This we ask in His precious name, AMEN. The promise that the Lord made to David is wonderful, and will be fulfilled at Christ's return to earth to set up His kingdom - but the many precious promises that He has given to you and to me are no less wonderful. Let us never take our salvation for granted, and let us never treat as insignificant our eternal position in Christ, our future inheritance, the forgiveness of sins, and everlasting life - for what God has said He will fulfil - not because of who we are but for the honor of His holy name and to the glory of Jesus Christ - our God and Savior. And now, O Lord GOD, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, the promise you gave to David, that there would always be a Man to sit on his throne, is indeed wonderful. But the most wonderful and glorious truth is this; You loved us so much that you sent Jesus to pay for the price of our sins and that by His Resurrection, He broke the power of sin in our lives and caused us to be called a son of God and a joint-heir with Christ. Lord, for this we will continue to be eternally grateful. May all we say and do be to the honor of Your name, for You alone are worthy. Thank You, Father. In Jesus' name, AMEN. May we learn to pray in spirit and truth and to trust the Lord with our whole heart, knowing that He is a God Who hears and answers prayer. May we seek to align our prayers with His will for our life and not regard prayer as a technique to twist God to do what we want. Rather, may we be ready and willing to trust Him in all things and to hand over the hopes and desires of our heart into His gracious will, and be ready to leave them with Him. She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons we can learn from the bible – so that our trust in You can be ignited and our faith in God could be strengthened. Teach us to pray often and help us to hand over every circumstance in life to You, knowing that Your way is best, and Your will is perfect. Increase our faith, we pray, and should we ever become careless in our prayer-life, bring us to that point of desperation, for You alone have the words of life. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. NEVER FORGET - JESUS is our coming Bridegroom, but unlike Ruth, OUR story is not yet over. Our story continues to be written. Our Lord has yet to come to take us to heaven, to be with Himself. He is making preparations to claim us as His Bride and is busily preparing rooms for us. Let us sit still, and patiently watch and wait for His imminent return, knowing that the Man, Christ Jesus, rests neither day nor night as He makes intercessions for us. She replied, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.” Our United Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for Your Word. Thank You for Jesus, the living Word, and the Bible, Your written Word. Thank You for the Scriptures that point to the Man Christ Jesus, our precious Redeemer, risen Savior. May we learn the many lessons that Your Word teaches and may we grow in grace and fall more in love with the Lord Jesus day by day. In His name we pray, AMEN. |
