The Sabbath-Rest- this verse is looking toward our final inheritance promised to every believer when God's work with His New Creation is complete. God's Sabbath-Rest will be established when Jesus hands over the Kingdom to God the Father, after He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For Christ must reign until He puts all His enemies under His feet, including the last enemy - which is death. "So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God" Our United Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the 'rest' we already have by faith in Christ Jesus and for the full and final Sabbath-Rest that will one day be ours, when Christ finally defeats every evil principality and power. Thank You that the earthly kingdom which was lost through sin, will be handed back to You, and Your redemptive plan will be completed. Keep us looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith - the Beginning and the End of Your creative work. Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN. As members of His body, let us seek to use our gifts to uplift and invigorate our brothers and sisters in the faith, and to welcome the encouragement and advice we receive from them. Let's never forget that we have gifts that differ from one another, according to the grace that has been given to us, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we should exercise our spiritual gifts and grace accordingly - not only for the mutual encouragement of one another.. but also for the honor and glory of His precious name. "That is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that we are all members of Your body and that each one has been given gifts and graces that are to be used appropriately. Help us to live according to Your Word and to use our gifts and graces for the mutual encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ. May we all grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus, as we see the day of His return grow ever closer. This we ask, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. The simple gospel requires no effort, for we are saved by grace simply through faith in Christ Jesus. But living our Christian life as unto the Lord requires patient endurance as we press on, day by day, in the footsteps of our Savior to the goal of our calling, which is to be conformed into the image of Christ. This takes effort and courage which only comes from the Spirit of God, but in so doing we are obeying the Lord as we press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. So let's keep racing the race- "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Our United Prayer:
Loving Father, we want to press on in our Christian lives, to become more and more like the Lord Jesus. We know that it will require us to put our hands to the plough and press on, with the patient endurance that only comes from You. We pray that we may not lose heart or grow weary in doing the good works that You have prepared for us to do. Thank You that in due time we may reap a fruitful reward, if we do not give up. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. For the unbeliever the entire prophecy of Joel is future. As we read in Revelation, the sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and remarkable Day of the Lord. At the end of the 7 year Tribulation period, nations will finally acknowledge Jesus as Lord and call out to Him for salvation. He will come in great power and glory to save His people and every eye will see Him - and then the Word of the Lord through the prophet Joel will reach its full and final completion. "The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You told us the end from the beginning and that we have a greater understanding of Your plan of redemption - for both those that are called by Your name and for those that reject Your precious offer of salvation. Thank You that by faith we have the Holy Spirit and are not appointed to wrath - knowing that Christ bore our sins in His body on the Cross so that by faith we have been forgiven of our sins, have passed from death to life, and are members of Christ's Body. Thank You for the prophecies of Joel and that the full and final fulfilment of His amazing prophecy will be realized when the whole world finally repents of their sins, recognizes Christ as their Messiah, and calls on His name for salvation - at the end of the Great Tribulation. Give us a heart for the unsaved, and use us to tell forth the glories of Your wonderful name and amazing plan of redemption. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN. God's Word exposes the innermost thoughts of our hearts and can judge our very motives and secret desires. May we make it a priority to test all things, to hold fast that which is good, and may we do so in godly love and in humble submission to HIM. "But test everything; hold fast what is good." Our United Prayer:
Heavenly Father, instill in us desires to know You more and to study Your Word diligently and prayerfully so that we may be approved unto God. Help us to examine all things carefully and to hold fast to all that is good, genuine, and true, as outlined in Your Words. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN. |
